Fossil Field Trip

The club met Dr. Gary Schmelz in Immokalee at a Publix parking lot before we headed to the Big Island Excavating Pit about 13 miles away. Once we were set free to start the hunt, everyone began there own excavations. There was plenty of material to dig through which was very exciting. After fossiling, we had lunch at Long Horn where Dr. Schmelz gave us raffle tickets for some prized fossils that he has found from his other trips. Each of us went home with some very special shells. Fay did a great organizing the trip and it was appreciated by all. The day was absolutely beautiful and everyone had a great time.
